Southern Cross

The Southern Cross Ministry came about while teaching a 4th grade boys Bible study on Wednesday nights at a local church. I wanted to give the boys something to help them remember the lesson and I came up with this simple design cross necklace. They looked really cool and with the magnetic clasp they were really easy for the young ones to put on. Joining with the boys I started wearing one as well. After a while several men in the church asked if I could make them cross necklaces too. In just a short time many of the men in our men’s Bible study were also sporting the crosses. Now thousands have been passed out and worn in many different countries.

The cross necklaces are made of materials available in the time of Jesus and are symbolic of the tools used by the Romans to crucify Jesus. Leather cord like the whips or flagellum that were used to flog Jesus before they crucified him and the wooden cross that Jesus’ hands and feet were nailed to. These cross necklaces are humble, moderate, simple and unassuming. Just the kind of necklace Jesus might wear himself.
